A strong south-west gale prevailed on Saturday, the wind at times bio win t with hurricane force. The conditions generally were unsettled, with occasional showers and periods of sunshine. Fine weather and a moderate southerly wind prevailed during the week-end, but conditions on Saturday were occasionally overcast and threatening. To-day there were intervals of sunshine. The barometer has been steady at SO.loiu since mid-day on Saturday. WELLINGTON, August 25. Saturday was fine with a fresh northwest wind. In the evening the wind turned strongly to the south and the sky clouded over, but no rain fell. The maximum temperature was 57.8 degrees and the minimum 40. By Sunday morning the wind had dropped and a fine day followed with a cool • southerly breeze. The maximum temperature was 48.2 degrees and the minimum 40 degrees. CHRISTCHURCH, August 25. The weather was fine and for the ■most part sunny in Christchurch over the week-end. A boisterous south-west wind blew all Saturday and Saturday night and did not die down until late this morning. The afternoon was calm The barometer is unsteady and read 30.08 in at 5 p.m.
