EXPLOSION IN KITCHEN

SHOWER OF LIVE COKE OCCUPANTS ESCAPE INJURY (Per United Press Association) NELSON, August 19. A loud explosion, followed by the scattering of red-hot embers across the room, startled the four occupants of the Ritz kitchen about 8 this morning. As the proprietor (Mr R. E. Ladbrook) was investigating, lie received the force of a second explosion in the face and was covered with a shower of ashes, but he escaped serious injury. Coke was the only fuel used in the furnace, and the explosion occurred a few minutes after a fresh lot had been put in. The furnace was wrecked, and a shower of live coke cast over the kitchen. The occupants were extremely lucky in escaping serious injury.
