OTAGO RUGBY UNION

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Union was held last night. The president (Mr J. B. Wootton) occupied the chair. BLAZERS FOR REPRESENTATIVE PLAYERS. Mr D. M. Stuart moved, in accordance with notice, that blazers be given to all players who have played in the Otago representative A team on three occassions. The motion was carried unanimously. It was pointed out that a player did not necessarily have to play on three occasions in the One season in order to qualify for a blazer, TRANSFER. C. E. Goding wrote applying for a transfer from the Alhambra Club to the Union Club.—Noted, the application to stand over for the usual eix months. EXPLANATION WANTED. W. Lang wrote, on behalf of the Otago Boys’ High School Fifth Grade team, protesting against the- Dunedin team including several Fourth Grade players in the match played at Tahuna Park on August 10 against the school. It was decided to ask the Dunedin Club for an explanation. WEST TAIERI CLUB. F, M. Doherty, secretary of the West Taieri Club, wrote as follows:—"My committee wishes to inform your union that it takes exception to a remark passed at a meeting of the union that the West Taieri team was too heavy for Second Grade B football. My committee considers that this team was outweighted by several of the teams it played against during the season. On each member of the team being weighed recently the average weight was 104 stone.” In the discussion which followed it was stated that the time might have arrived when the team should be promoted to the A Grade, and some members of the committee held that individual players in the Taieri team were on the heavy side. The letter was received. ORDERED OFF. Mr L. E. Macassey,. the referee in the Otago-Wairarapa match, wrote as follows:—“ I have to advise that in the representative game Otago v. Wairarapa, played on Saturday last. I had occasion to order off J. Faulle, of the Wairarapa team for kicking an Otago player who was lying on the ground. I might mention that the ball was not near the place where the player was kicked.” J. Faulls wrote as follows:—"! wish to express regret to your union that a referee of the Otago Referee’s Association thought fit to order me off the field of play. I can assure you I feel aggrieved over the incident, and I take it as a blemish on my reputation as a sportsman and a player.” It was decided to send the letters to the Wairarapa Rugby Union. RULING WANTED. R. MTCenzic, bon. secretary of the Otago Referee’s Association, wrote as follows: — “In the case of, a player who has had to leave the field returning without notifying the referee, what penalty, if any, should be imposed? ” It was decided to refer the question „o the New Zealand Union. Mr Stuart, in connection with this matter, raised the question of the powers of a referee in regard to ordering off a man who had been injured and who was palpably unfit to go on with the game, lie referred to an incident in the OtagoWairarapa match, and stated that one of the visiting players who had been injured should not have been allowed to couPerry said he had examined Laing early in the game and he had told the referee that if he noticed anything abnormal about him he would be well advised to send him off. Dr Perry added that Laing had refused to come off, and as a matter of fact he had played right through the game. JUNIOR COMPETITION. Mr T. O’Shea, reporting on behalf of the Flag Committee, stated that in the Third Grade competition Southern and Kaikorai were level with 26 points each, Mjd that the next nearest team had only 22 points. The committee recommended that the two leading teams play the final at Tahuna Park at 1.45 on Saturday. The recommendation was approved. Mr O’Shea also recommended, on behalf of the committee, that the Fifth Grade competition be declared closed and High School A be declared the winners. The recommendation was adopted. JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. Air A. Cameron, manager of the Otago representative junior team which played a South Tuapeka team at Waitahuna on Saturday, reported on the match. The junior representatives had won by 24 points to 18 points. The game bad been r.n interesting one, and the visit of the team had been /much appreciated by the people of the district. Mr Cameron was thanked for his report. NORTH ISLAND TOUR. It was decided to send 22 players and two managers on the northern tour of the Otago team. Messrs Stuart and Wootton were appointed managers of the team. There were five nominations for the two positions. PERMISSION TO TRAVEL. The secretary of the Eastern Districts Sub-uniqn wrote applying for permission for the Pirates team to travel to Palmerston on August 31 to play an Eastern Districts team. It was decided that the Pirates Club should make its own application, and to point out that August 31 was the date of the charity match in Dunedin. PRIMARY SCHOOLS REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. The (Messrs Duff, Simmers and Morgan) of the Otago primary schools team which is to play against the Southland schoolboys, reported that it had picked the following team: — Backs—Stanley (Forbury),! Roy (Christian Brothers), Mercer (Forbury), Edwards (Musselburgh), Jeffrey (-Arthur Street, captain), Broadbent (St. Clair), Woodhousc (North-East Harbour); forwards —Dodds (St. Clair). Ellis (Caversham), Cliattertou (Forbury). Elvidge (Arthur Street). Reid (North-East Harbour). Hodgson (Macaiulrew Road), MT’ae (St. Clair), West (Kensington). Emetgenci.es: Backs—Whiston (Mosgiel), Hornhrook (Mosgiel); forwards —Leckie (Dunedin North Intermediate), Galvin (High Street). The game will bo played as a curtainraiser to the Otago-Southland match on Saturday. Mr H. D. Morgan will be the manager of the Otago team. OTAGO TEAM SELECTED The team to represent Otago against. Gold; forwards—C. Moreland, E. Murphy. The team will practise at Carisbrook at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
