OPERATIONS BY BURGLARS
SAFE AND CAR STOLEN SMALL SUM OF MONEY STOLEN (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 17. An office safe, 4ft by 2ft, and a motor car were stolen from the Auckland Motor Company’s premises last night* by burglars, who clambered over the roofs of adjoining buildings and down a lift well to gain an entry. In the premises of the Towel Supply Company next door the burglars exploded gelignite in the keyhole of the large strongroom. The explosion blew the bolts out except one, which held, and the attempt to open the door failed. There was a considerable sum of money inside. The premises of a radjo firm was also entered, but nothing was stolen.
The stolen safe, which contained the firm’s books and a small sum of money, was found to-day near the Orakei wharf. It had been blown open. It has been noticeable lately that burglaries have been committed on Friday nights, the object evidently being to secure the shopkeepers’ takings after the late shopping night.
