AUCKLAND HOSPITAL

ERECTION OF SURGICAL BLOCK QUESTION OF FINANCE (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND August It. f After consulting with Dr M. H. Watt, Director-general of Health, and Dr R A. Shore, direction of the division of hospitals, the Auckland Hospital Board decided at a special meeting that steps be taken to secure the necessary finance and authority for the erection of a surgical block at the main hospital and a chest hospital on a site yet to be chosen. The board also decided to proceed with the extension of office accommodation. The meeting was held in committee and afterwards the chairman, Mr W. Wallace, stated that he considered that the most urgent requirement at the hospital was a block to provide for surgical cases, casualty cases and administrative offices. Dr Shore promised the board all the assistance his department could give to bring the scheme to a successful issue Mr Wallace said that several sites had been inspected for 'the location of a chest hospital, and a decision would be reached in a very short time.
