OPPOSED TO NAZISM
SECTION OF CATHOLIC CLERGY GENERAL GOERING’S CHARGES BERLIN, July 18. Accusing a section of the Catholic clergy of systematic political opposition to Nazism, General Goering has instructed the authorities to apply every legal means against clergy misusing their authority. He objects to Catholics using the greeting, “Hail, Heavenly Fuhrer,” and disapproves of Catholic youth associations with initials corresponding with those of Nazi organisations.
MASS ALLEGEDLY ABUSED LONDON, July 18. The Daily Chronicle’s Berlin correspondent says that the secret police have been instructed to listen to Catholic sermons. Priests guilty of anti-Nazi utterances will be sent to concentration camps. General Goering declares that scarcely a Sunday passes without Mass being abused by reading political declarations. The Government will allow priests to co-operate in education only provided they unreservedly support Nazism.
