ROYAL EMPIRE SOCIETY
THE NEW BUILDING (From Odr Own Correspondent.) (By Air Mail) LONDON, June 29. Fellows and guests of the Royal Empire Society were favoured with a very pleasant summer evening for the annual reception of the society at the Imperial Institute, South Kensington. Representatives of every part of the Empire and local members of the society must have numbered nearly 2000, but the spacious exhibition halls of the Imperial Institute provided ample and pleasant accommodation.
The guests were yeceivea by Lieuten-ant-colonel-Sir Archibald Weigall, chairman of the council, and Lady Weigall, and by some of the vice-presidents and other members of the council, after which they had several diversions to choose from. The String Band of the Grenadier Guards, under Major G. Miller, provided a programme of music in the exhibition courts. A concert was held in the Jehangir Hall, at which English and dominion artists performed. An exhibition of Empire films was in .progress all the evening in the kinema hall. The chief centre of activity, however, was in the exhibition pavilion, where dancing was continually in progress. Supper was served at buffets in various parts of the building.
With so many attractions it was not surprising that a very large proportion of the guests remained until the dance band played the National Anthem at 12.30 a.m.
