Women’s Rest Room The proposal to establish a women's rest room in Milton was further coni sidered at a meeting convened by the Milton Borough Council and of representatives of local organisations interested. The Bruce County Council has offered to provide gratuitously suitable accommodation for the rest room and .conveniences, subject to the council being absolved from financial responsibility for alterations, furnishings, or future maintenance. This offer has been accepted, and a _ women’s sub-committee- appointed to inquire as to requisite furnishings and probable cost, also a men’s committee to ascertain estimated cost of alterations and installation of a septic tank system of drainage. Magistrate’s Court
The monthly sitting of the Milton Magistrate’s Court was held, yesterday morning, before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M. The list principally consisted of chargee by the borough inspector against a number of local residents for breaches of the by-laws in riding bicycles at night without lights. The following penalties were imposed:—John MTjean, Patrick Soanlan, and Alfred Archer were each fined 10s (costa 10s): Clarence Keppel, Frances Dolan and Frances M'Donald were each fined 5a (costs 10a) on similar charges. On the information of the borough inspector (Mr C. J. Fahey), Hector Farquhar was fined £2, with costs 10s, for driving at an excessive speed on the main street through Milton on June 14. Sol Glazer. jun. (Timaru), was charged with driving a motor car at ah excessive speed on the main highway between Clarksville and Milton on June 15, and was fined £3, with costs 10s. . Arising out of a motoring collision which occurred on Milton’s main street on Saturday evening, June 15. Thomas Pearson was charged by Constable Kerse on two informations:— (l) Driving a motor vehicle without a light half an hour after sunset; (2) driving in a negligent manner at an intersection.—After evidence had been given the first information was dismissed, and the second information was amended to a minor breach of the motor regulations.—The defendant was convicted and ordered to pay witness’s expenses (8s 2d). Over two hours were engaged in hearing a civil case, in which Frank Sraoothy claimed from Walter Hunt the sura of £2 10s, damages for five Khaki Campbells, alleged to have been worried or killed by the defendant’s English setter dog.— iifter lengthy evidence, judgment was given for the plaintiff for £2, with court costa (10s), solicitor’s fee (£1 6s), and witnesses’s expenses (£1).
Queen Carnival The grand finale to the recent Queen Carnival in aid of the funds of the local Plunket Society and Toko Lawn Tennis Club eventuated in the Coronation Hall on Thursday night, when there was a large attendance. The function was carried out with full ceremonial, and provided a delightful spectacle. The Plunket Queen (Miss M. Gray) was duly crowned Queen of the Carnival. She was accompanied by the Tennis Queen {Miss S. Vidal) and full retinue of maids of honour, high dignitaries, and a large number of little pages and attendant little maids.
