DUEL FOUGHT IN AUCKLAND ENGLISHMAN WOUNDS FOREIGNER (Peb United Pbess Association) . AUCKLAND, July' 16. A duel with naked swords is reported to have been fought in Auckland last Friday night. The victor in the contest was a former English army officer, who with his sword nicked the upper arm of his opponent, who thereupon withdrew. : ■ The djsputa which led to the duel arose in an hotel between the Englishman and a stranger, said to be a foreigner, who made a grossly insulting remark about King George.' A duelling ground was found in a room on the top floor of a city building. Seconds were appointed, and coats and collars having been removed the fight began, duelling swords being used. They fought for several minutes, but neither gained an advantage until the Englishman ran his sword through the fleshy part of his antagonist’s arm. Honour being satisfied, the contest ended.
