CHINESE GAMBLERS
SWIFT RAID BY POLICE FINES TOTALLING £175 IMPOSED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 28. Fines totalling £175 were imposed on seven Chinese, following a raid on premises in Haining street last night. For permitting the premises to be used. A. H. Low was fined £75, and the others, for being on the premise* without lawful excuse, from £l2 10s to £3O. From the evidenci it appeared that when the raid took place the Chinese made desperate efforts to escape, and Low was cut by the glass of a window and had to be attended to by a doctor at the police station, several stitches being put in his hand. One man actually got away.
