WELTER-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

STIRLING LOSES TITLE. (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June -26. Don Stirling, of Oamaru, professional welter-weight champion of New Zealand, lost his title to-night to N. Mudgway. of Waihi in a 15-rounds bout which went the full distance. The decision, although popular with the spectators, was surprising to some. Both boxers were very fit, fast and clever. After the first few rounds Stirling did most of the leading and made ihe fight all the way. He scored frequently with heavy rights over the heart and to the head. Mudgway was therefore mostly on the defensive, and showed excellent skill and tacticsHe took much punishment, however, though he was never distressed.
