NOTICE OF INTENTION TO, STRIKE GENERAL, HOSPITAL, AND WATER RATES, SANITARY FEE, AND GENERAL DRAINAGE AND SEWERAGE RATES TN THE CITY OF DUNEDIN. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT the Dunedin City Council, pursuant to the powers vested in it by “ The Municipal Corporations Act, 1933,” and all other pow-ers enabling it in that behalf, will at a meeting of the Council to be held at the Town Hall, Dunedin, on WEDNESDAY, the 29th DAY OP MAY, 1935, at 7.30 p.m., make and levy the following rates and fee for the period commencing on the Ist DAY OF APRIL, 1935, and' ending on the 31st DAY OF MARCH, 1936—viz., (a) A GENERAL RATE under Section 77 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1933,” of TWO SHILLINGS AND ONE PENNY (2s Id) in the Pound (£) upon the value of the rateable property as appearing on the Valuation Roll fpr the time being in force in the City of Dunedin. (b) A separate rate to be known as the HOSPITAL RATE under the authority of Section 52 of “ The Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, 1926,” of SIX PENCE (6d) in the Pound (£) upon the value of the rateable property as appearing on the Valuation Roll for the time being in force in the City of Dunedin. (c) WATER RATES under Section 82 of “ The Municipal Corporations Act, 1933,” as follows —that is to say: In respect of the ordinary supply:— Upon all lands and buildings to which water is supplied, the rateable value of which on the Valuation Roll does not exceed £l2 10s a rate of 10s; exceeds £l2 10s, a rate of 3| per cent., or NINE PENCE (9d) in the Pound (£) on such value. Upon all lands and buildings to which water can be but is not supplied, situate within 100 yards from any part of the waterworks, And Upon all buildings used as stores or warehouses or for any purpose other than as dwelling-houses, a rate of one-half of the rates above-men-tioned. i) A SANITATION FEB under Section 90 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1933” of THIRTY-SIX SHILLINGS AND FOUR PENCE (36s 4d) per pan for the removal of NIGHT SOIL on all premises within the City of Dunedin to which such service is given. ;) GENERAL SEWERAGE RATES as hereunder set forth under “ The Dunedin District Drainage and Sewerage Act, 1900,” and Amendments thereof, and in pursuance of a resolution passed by the Dunedin Drainage and Sewerage Board ordering such rates to be made and levied by the Dunedin City Council —viz: (1) Upon every SEWERED PROPERTY a rate called the GENERAL SEWERAGE RATE of ONE SHILLING AND FOUR PENCE (Is 4d) in the Pound (£) of the annual rateable value of such property. (2) Upon every UNSEWERED PROPERTY, save such as are mentioned in paragraph three (3) hereof, a rate of EIGHT PENCE (8d) in the Pound (£) of the annual rateable value of such property. (3) Upon every UNSEWBRED PROPERTY in the OUTER DRAINAGE AREA A GENERAL DRAINAGE RATE of TWO PENCE (2d) in the Pound (£) of the annual rateable value of such property. The above rates are payable on the rateable value of each property as appearing on the Valuation Roll for the time being in force in the City of Dunedin, in ope sum in each case on the let Day of June, 1935, at the office of the Dunedin City Council, Town Hall, Dunedin, and the additional charge of 10 per cent, provided for by Section 76 of “ The Rating Act, 1925,” will be imposed, on all such rates which shall remain unpaid after the 23rd day of December, 19 AND NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN THAT the Valuation Roll and the Rate Book are open for inspection by all persons concerned at the Town Hall, Octagon, between the hours of 9 o clock a.m. and 4 o’clock p.m. daily, but on Saturdays between the hours of 9 o clock a.m. and 12 o’clock noon only. The object is to ensure that even the younger scholars shall be able to answer a telephone call in the correct manner, and, when emergency arises, be able to use the telephone intelligently and easily. Two important features are included in the now lesson —the teaching of clear articulation and the cultivation of a good telephone manner.
