OAMARU TROTTING CLUB

WINTER MEETING HELD TAXPAYER PRINCIPAL WINNER AIR FLOW SUCCESSFUL AGAIN The Oamaru Trotting Club’s winter meeting took place in fine weather, but a cold wind was blowing all the afternoon. There was a good attendance, and the track provided sound and fast going. Discord made the Innovation Handicap a one-horse race. The Advance Handicap was an interesting race. Player and Self made the early running, but the latter failed to stay, and the former won nicely trom Tricliff and Sea Mark. Taxpayer got boxed on the rails when coming round the top, but when Bracken looked the winner of the President’s Handicap the favourite came with a fast and well-sustained run and won by over a length. Manoeuvre put up the best performance of the! others as he finished fourth after losirig a lot of ground at the start. They took 2min 19sec to go the first mile, and hence the race was run to suit a speedy horse. Rocks Ahead went out a sound favourite for the Papakaio Handicap, and scored a comfortable win. The imported filly Air Flow started an odds-on chance for the Waikaura Handicap, and once settled in her stride, gave a good exhibition. She won with something in hand from Renegade. Ann Parrish was unlucky as she was turned the wrong way at the start, and making up the lost ground rather too rapidly did not help her chance. Still, it is very doubtful if anything could have beaten the favourite. Craganour wag a good thing beaten in the Enfield Handicap. He lost all his handicap at the start, and after hitting the front in the straight, faded in the last few strides. . Wee Wrack went out favourite for the Stewards’ Handicap. She was fighting in her hopples at the release of the barriers and got hopelessly left. Rongomai won after a good race with Dillon Queen, Sea Trail, and Mystery Yet. Southern Smile drew up to finish third. Rocks Ahead was backed as a sure winner of the Electric Handicap, but General Wrack broke in front of nun and. cost the favourite a lot of ground. ine trotter, Admiral Bingen, showed the way to the pacers after goinj: half- a , D }. e ' but Directum and Rocks Ahead beat him in the rufl home. Mr A. J. Hastings was not 100 successful in some of his despatches, as Ann Parrish was turned at the start of her race, and Wee Wrack was fighting m her hobbles and got hopelessly left at the start of the Stewards’ Handicap after the field had missed an earlier opportunity for a good start. Mr W. Rudkin had one close finish to decide, and gave his usual prompt decisions. During the day £11,771 went through the totalisalor at 70-20-10, as compared with £14,448 last year, when Walla Walla, Harold Logan, Red Shadow and Roi I’Or provided a star attraction.

During the day two inquiries were held. One was into Taxpayer breaking and coming back on Great Logan. The other was in connection with Golden Cross galloping at the finish of the Papakaio Handicap. No further action was taken. are the results: — ' INNOVATION HANDICAP.
