JUBILEE SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Several outstanding attractions are promised at the Otago Swimming Centre's carnival, which will be held at the Municipal Baths to-night in connection with the King's jubilee celebrations. The annual water polo match between Otago and The Rest of Otago should provide a very exciting game, and patrons will be afforded an opportunity of seeing in action Walter Jarvis, the New Zealand national 100 yards and 220 yards champion, who will make an attempt on G-eorge Low's New Zealand record for 100 metres backstroke. G. Chambers, one of the finest exponents of the breaststroke seen in Otago. will make an attempt on his own New Zealand 75 yards junior boys' breaststroke record of 59 l-ssec. ■ Many wellknown figures in the swimming world have entered the 33 1-3 Yards "Old Buffers'" Race, and this event should prove highly entertaining. An unusual burlesque diving and swimming sketch has been arranged by Reg. Geddes, P. E. Mathieson. A. Williams, and N. Williams, and the Otago ladies' champion, Miss Gwen Rix, will give a display of plain and fancy diving. The 133 1-3 Yards Relay has drawn a large entry, and will be a novel event, comprising breaststroke, backstroke, free style, and sidestroke. The 100 Yards Breaststroke Handicap, 33 1-3 Yards Backstroke Handicap, 33 1-3 Yards Ladies' Handicap, and 50 Yards Junior and Intermediate Handicaps have drawn large entries.
