TRAPPED IN BURNING WHARE DEATH OF ELDERLY MAORI. (Per United Pkess Association) HAMILTON, May 10. Trapped in his whare, an elderly Maori was burned to death at Gordonton last evening. The victim, Hone Paama, aged 79, lived alone in a whare at Gordonton. The deceased, who had been bedridden for 12 months, was last seen at 8 o'clock last evening, when a relative saw him in bed with a lighted candle alongside him. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned. RUN OVER BY TRUCK WOMAN KILLED IN CITY STREET. (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 10. Shocking injuries to the head, which proved instantly fatal, were received by a widow, Mrs Jessie Addis, aged 71, when she was run over by a motor truck in the city. Mrs Addis, who lived in Pukekohe, was visiting Auckland for the day. The accident was witnessed by a newsboy who was on the opposite side of the street. He said that as Mrs Addis was crossing the street she dropped a bag which she was carrying and stopped to pick it up. She was struck as she started walking again. The front part of the truck struck her, knocking her down. She fell partly beneath the truck, one of the twin rear wheels passing over her head and causing instant death. • CHEF FOUND DEAD IN BED PREVIOUSLY IN HOSPITAL. fPEB United Press Association) HASTINGS, May 10. Frank William Scott, aged 30, a married man, employed as chef at the Hastings Hotel, was found dead in bed yesterday afternoon. He retired to his room at the rear of the hotel for a rest, and when called to come on duty was found to be dead. An inquest was opened this morning, when evidence of identification was taken. The deceased had been employed as chef at the hotel for the last 15 months. He was a patient at the Hastings Hospital some time ago for six weeks, suffering from an internal complaint. DEATH IN HOSPITAL CYCLIST STRUCK BY LORRY. (Per United Press Association) MASTERTON, May 10. Walter Jolly, aged 22, who was knocked off his bicycle by a motor truck in High street last night, died in hospital early this morning. QUARRY TRAGEDY MAN KILLED INSTANTLY. (Per United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, May 10. Falling over the high face of a quarry at the Public Works camp at Uruti to-day, George Wilson, aged 45, was killed instantly. He was a married man with two children.
