ROSLYN BOWLING CLUB

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES A highly successful social evening was held in the lloslyn Bowling Club's pavilion last night, the occasion being the annual presentation of prizes. The presi; dent (Mr F. H. Jones) was in charge of the proceedings. Welcoming those present, the president specially mentioned Mr J. Forster (president of the Dunedin Centre) and Mr J. Butler (president of the Mornington Club), and regretted that through an oversight the date selected for the function had clashed with that of the elections. The Championship Singles trophies were presented by Mr D. O'Connell. Congratulating the president on winning this event, Mr O'Connell remarked that it was a strange coincidence that 14 years ago Mr Jones had achieved the similar unusual distinction of being both president and Singles Championship winner of the Balmacewen Club. In addition to the cup Mr Jones was the recipient of a handsome fire screen. Mr J. W. Thomas was the runner-up, and he received a bowl bag. Both responded suitably. Mr F. 11. Jones presented the prizes in the Handicap Singles section, and, complimenting Mr C. Tyrrell on his success, he remarked that the winner was a bowler of distinction who had already won a number of trophies. He then presented Mr Tyrrell with the cup and a leather travelling bag. The runner-up, Mr A. Lindsay, was absent. The winner of the Junior Championship, Mr F. G. Sharpe, was the recipient of a cup and a cigar case, the presentation being made by Mr W. D. Richards. The speaker complimented the Ties Committee on getting the junior events'oir early, and stated that the present juniors were the finest crowd.the club had seen in the last 10 years. The Championship Doubles trophies went to Messrs A. Blackwood and F. H. Jones, the former receiving a Doultonware jug and the latter a fountain pen as well as medals. The runners-up were Messrs W. Lindsay and J. Thomas, who received a cruet set and a bowl bag respectively. Mr W. A. Don made the presentations. The Club Doubles competition was won by Messrs Z. Wood and W. Alloo. On behalf of the club Mr J. Matheson presented them with a barometer and a set of stainless cutlery. The runners-up, Messrs W. Adamson and T. M'Gillivray, were absent. The president of the Dunedin Centre (Mr J. Forster) presented to Messrs S. Wood and C. Anderson the trophies for the centre's Easter Pairs tournament. He congratulated all prize-winners, and thanked the club for its loyalty to the centre, and especially for keeping the green open till after the Easter tournament. The winners of the certificates had gained a great honour, both for themselves and the club, especially as there were 170 pairs competing. He concluded by complimenting Air Jones on hie success both as president of the club and as a bowler. Occasion was taken by the president to compliment the junior vice-president (Mr G. Dennis) on his enthusiasm on behalf of the club and on his energetic work towards furthering the interests and wellbeing of the body. During the evening a programme ot enjoyable musical items was presented as follows:—March, " Unity Hall," the Roslyn Bowling Club Orchestra; song, Mr S. Lawn; flute solo, Mr H. Joel; song, Mr J. Galloway; cornet solo, Master L. Brown; descriptive number, "In a Monastery Garden," the orchestra; violin solo, Mr G. Dennis; song, Mr J. Paterson; waltz, "The Merry Widow," the orchestra. A brief session of community singing was also held. Mr W. A. Mackay returned thanks to the performet'6.
