"FRENCH LEAVE"
On "Tuesday next in the Town Hall' Concert Chamber the Dunedin Strolling Players will present the delightful comedy " French Leave." The season is. for five nights, and no pains have been spared to ensure a first-class production._ An exceptionally strong, cast of local" amateurs has been chosen, and will inr! elude such well-known players as Miss Anita Winkel, Miss Sheila Neilson, Messrs Douglas Dall, Angus Gorrie, Douglas Skene, Reynolds Herbert, Rolaiid Watson and Bert Jone 3. The play wiU be mounted in special scenery so as to' give the correct atmosphere, and thecomedy is being produced by' Mr Reginald White. The story Of the play concerns Captain Glenister, who, in a billet behind the lines " somewhere in France,'', has been expecting leave to visit his wife Dorothy, in Paris. This, however, does not materialise, and Dorothy, impatient at her husband's absence, hits on the plan of visiting him at the billet, in the guise of a French girl, in the belief that she would be able to carry her rola through to the end. Events begin to" happen when Graham, a young subaltern, and General Root begin making love to-* Dorothy in front of her husband, un-i aware that she is his wife. In past years the players have presented many plays that have appealed to Dunedinaudiences, and this year's production should prove to be no exception to the rule. The box plan opens at the D.I.C. to-morrow morning.
