AUSTRALIAN NEWS

RAVAGES OF THE DROUGHT MILLIONS OF SHEEP DEAD BRISBANE, May 6. So great lias been the ravages of drought in the western interior that it is estimated that between 5,000,000 and 6,000,000 sheep have died. This is the greatest setback the pastoral industry in Queensland has ever experienced. More than 10,000 cattle and 260,000 sheep have been removed from the drought area. On two trains last week more than 1000 dead sheep were put off. The president of the Graziers’ Association (Mr N. Bourke), after a tour of the area, said the matter was one for the State and Federal Governments.
