At the monthly meeting of the Beaumont branch of the W.D.F.U. the rollcall was, “A game for a winter evening party,” and there was a short reading on “ Preparing for winter.” Mrs Tinnock then gave a demonstration on “ manicure.”

The Clinton branch met in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Thursday, Miss Roscveare presiding. Mr Coker, the Government poultry instructor, gave a talk and demonstration on “Poultry.”

The Berwick branch met on Thursday. Mrs J. Wither (president) occupied the chair. A successful poppy dance was held during Easter, when the sum of £l3 11s was sent to the R.S.A. Mrs Matheson was accorded a vote of thanks for making the branch wreath placed on the memorial gates on Anzac Day, the poppies for which were contributed by the members. Mrs Elliott, of Clarendon, gave a short talk on her travels abroad. Mrs Horn then gave a demonstration of the making of a seagrass stool.

The Milburn-Clarendon branch met at Clarendon on Friday. Mrs Elliot and Mrs Horn wore appointed delegates to the conference. Dir Hamel, of Dunedin, gave an address on “Gardening.” The rollcall was “ Topical subjects.” The hostesses were Mosdanies Kane, Cromarty, and Kane.

The Glydevale branch met in the hall on Thursday afternoon, when Mrs Kee presided. Motions of sympathy with Mr and Mrs M’Farlane and family and Mr Chapman and family were carried in silence. The president and secretary were appointed to attend the annual provincial conference as delegates from the branch. .A photographic competition resulted as follows: —Mrs Anderson and Mrs A. King 2. Mrs Kee demonstrated basketry.

The Omakan branch held its annual meeting on Thursday, Mrs Charles presiding, The election of officers resulted ns follows: —President, Mrs Charles (reelected); secretary, Mrs Wilson (reelected) ; vice-presidents—Mrs Sconlar (re-elected), Mrs Butcher, Mrs Naylor; committee —Mrs Leask, Mrs Oaten, Mrs Truesdale, Mrs Naylor, sen.; delegates to attend the conference in Dunedin in June. Mrs Charles and Mi’s Sconlar. Mrs W. J. Gallagher, who is leaving the district, was presented, with a silver sugar basin suitably inscribed.

The Otakou branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its animal meeting last month. The election of officers was as follows: —Mrs Douglas, president; Mrs Ellison, secretary; (reelected). The competitions for the month were “ The most useful article made out of a sugar bag,” and “ A sample of the best plain biscuit.” The winners were Mrs Taiaroa and Mrs Potiki. A “Mad

Hatters’ ” dance was held in aid of funds and special prizes were awarded to Mr Kaahu and Miss Kent for the prettiest, and Mrs Taiaroa and Mr Watson for the most comical hats.

The annual meeting of the Cromwell branch wa« held on Friday. Mrs T. Smith presided, The following officebearers were elected; —President, Mrs T. Smith (re-elected); secretary, Mrs W. M'Millan (re-elected); Mrs R. Ritchie, acting-secretary until Mrs M'Millan’s recovery; vice-presidents—Mesdames W. Brown, M. de Bittencor, and T. Phillips; committee —Mesdames Bowie, Bridgeraan, Webb, and president, secretary, and vicepresidents; advisory members, president and secretary; delegates to conference — Mesdames T. Smith and R. Ritchie; press correspondent. Miss E. Smith. A Syllabus Committee was formed to arrange the next six months’ programme. The prize for most points in competition was won by Mrs Bowie with Mesdames Heggie and Bridgeman second (equal). Hostesses were Mesdames H, Bowie and W. Brown.
