MANCHESTER UNITY

At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Mosgiel Lodge a visit was received from P.G.M. Bro. J. D. Cameron and P.D.G.M. Bro. E. W. Hey, representing the District Executive. The meeting was presided over by P.G. Bro. Wright, who welcomed the district officers on behalf of the lodge. A committee was set up to make arrangements for the lodge's participation in the silver jubilee celebrations at Mosgiel, a suggestion being tbat the lodge should supply a decorated vehicle for the procession, while members were also invited to attend church parade, i It was decided to invite a city lodge to take part in a debate. The P.G.M. was asked to make a presentation of a Past Grand's certificate to Bro. H. Wright, who recently completed a term of office. The P.G.M. thanked the recipient for his services to the lodge, mentioning that Bro. Wright was a keen member and a frequent visitor to the city lodges. Bro. Wright suitably responded. At the conclusion of business the visitors were the guests of the elective officers at supper. The district officers in responding to the toast of the executive, expressed pleasure at the opportunity of visiting the lodge. The Loyal Caversham Lodge held its fortnightly meeting last< Wednesday evening, when N.G. Bro. F. Snook presided over a large attendance of members. Correspondence included a communication from the secretary of the M.U. Ball Committee asking for the appointment of two delegates. V.G. Bro. Croft and if.S. Bro. Parker were appointed. An invitation was received from the Loyal Princess Mary Lodge for the Caversham officers to take the chairs at its meeting on May 14, the Caversham brethren also to provide harmony for that evening. Two new members were initiated. A welcome was extended to P.G. Bro. W. Gilliard, who was visiting the lodge after an absence of some years in Wellington. Following the ordinary meeting a social evening was held at which a welcome was extended to the N.G. Bro. F. Snooks, and his wife. In making a presentation of a set of carvers and a barometer from his fellow members, P. Secretary Bro. J. List stated that the bridegroom was N.G. of their own lodge, while his wife was N.G. of the Loyal Star of the North (Oamaru) Lodge. He extended best wishes and congratulations from both lodges to the happy pair, in whose honour the Oddfellows toast was given. Bro. Snooks suitably replied, thanking .members for their gift and kjnd remarks. During the evening dancing was indulged in to music by the Kaikorai Trio, all present spending an enjoyable evening. N.G. Bro. L. James presided over the fortnightly meeting of Loyal Albion Lodge last Thursday evening. The occasion was an official visit from sister lodges, and despite inclement weather there was an excellent attendance of over 100 visiting brethren representative of nil city lodges as well as Mosgiel and Port Chalmers. P.G. Bro. R. Murray, n past permanent secretary of the old Loyal.Waitahuna Lodge, was welcomed and stated that as he was how living in Dunedin he hoped to join up with the Loyal Albion Lodge. P.G.M. Bro. J. D. Cameron and P.D.G.M. Bro. E. W. Hey, representing the executive, were received and welcomed, the former responding to tho toast, stating 1 that it was gratifying to see such a largely attended function as the present one, which spoke well for the enthusiasm of members. The P.G.M. intimated that the southern area competition would be held at Tapanui on Saturday night, seven of the country lodges being competitors. P.D.G.M. Bro. Hey also responded. Responses were received from the visiting lodges, after which the lodge was adjourned. Harmony was the order of the evening, the following contributing to an acceptable programme:—Bro. Joyce (piano), Bro. Finnie (songs), Mr M'Kinlay (songs), Miss M'Millan (songs), Mrs Nicholls (songs), Bro. Robb (Scotch humour), Bro. Henderson (xylophone solos). At the conclusion of I the programme a vote of thanks to the j performers was carried by acclamation.' The visitors were later entertained to supper, after which a short dance was j held. I
