A LOYAL CHURCHMAN
TRIBUTE TO MR JAMES BROWN At the close of the morning service at First Church yesterday the Rev. W.Allen Stevely paid a tribute to the memory of Mr James Brown, who had been an elder in First Church for many years. There could have been no more loyal subject of the King than Mr Brown, said the preacher, for loyalty was the very essence of his life. He was one of the oldest members of the church, and held office for 17 years. Failing health coulcj hardly prevent him from attendance. He took a keen and helpful interest in the work of the Otago Early Settlers' Association 1 , and' assisted in the task of compiling records that f?vew * n va l ue w 't' l the passing years. There was a charm in his personality that won the hearts of all who knew him. His gentle, winsome, gracious disposition was a benediction wherever he was, and there lay behind his gentleness the strength inspired by God. His faith in Jesus Christ was radiant and strong. He had passed to the'higher service, but the gracious influence of his life abided as an inspiration. To Mrs Brown and. the family they extended their warmest sympathy. At the close of the service Dr V. E. Galway played "The Flowere o' the Forest."
