NEW SOUTH WALES ELECTIONS
OVER TWO HUNDRED CANDIDATES NEW PARTY'S APPEARANCE (From Our. Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, April 23. For the 90 seats in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, voters will have the choice of 213 candidates, although, since 11 candidates are unopposed, the choice will really be made from 202 candidates for 79 seats. Tne candidates comprise United Australia Party, United Country Party, State Labour, Federal Labour, Communist, Centre Party, and Douglas Credit, as well as a number of independents. The lucky candidates who are not opposed include the leader of the Country Party (Mr M. F. Bruxncr) and the Minister for Education (Mr D. H. Drummond)' at Tenterfjeld and Armidale respectively. 'Other unopposed candidates are Mr Heffron (State Labour), Botany; Sir Thomas Bavin (U.A.P.), Gordon; Mr Lloyd (U.A.P.), Mosman; * Mr Shannon (State. Labour), Phillip; Mr-Ball (U.C.P.), Corowa; Mr Bennett (U.A.P.), Gloucester; lr Frith (U.C.P.j* Lismore; and Mr Morton (U.A.P.), Woolondilly. Mr Ball won his seat at the last election by a majority of only one, but there was on that occasion a three-cornered contest, which will not be repeated this time. Candidates of a new Centre Party are in the field. "The party is led by Mr Eric Campbell, of New Guard fame. Mr Campbell is a candidate for the Lane Cove seat, now held by the Minister for Health (Mr Fitzsimmons). Other scats to be contested by the party include ArnclifCe, Hornsby, and Manly. The Douglas Credit Party is also making a modest appearance, and will contest the Premier's seat, Croydon. The late Minister for Health (Mr Weaver), who quarrelled with the Premier a few months ago, f will contest Neutral Bay as the endorsed U.A.P. candidate. He will not have any official opposition from his own party, as was previously hinted. His only opponent will be Mr Peter Pollock, who is advocating the Country Party platform, but is running as an Independent. At. Ashfield, Mr Milton Jarvie, who failed to receive a renewal of endorsement by the U.A.P. Dccause of the Royal Commission's criticism of him in the New Zealand trust companies' operations, will run as an Independent U.A.P. candidate. His official U.A.P. opponent rill

Maher, State Labour candidate for Wagga, is the youngest candidate nominated. *He recently celebrated his twentyfourth birthday, and is a student of law and arts at Sydney University. A number of prospective Communist Party candidates withdrew at the last minute. The necessity of candidates to lodge a deposit of £25, provided for in new legislation, was given as the reason.
