"BATTLE OF THE BRIDGE"

The mediaeval " Battle of the Bridge, a contest between rival forces which approach from opposite sides of the river and fight in the middle of the bridge, is being revived at Pisa after 150 years. It is to form part of the festival in June. With the Saracenic games of Arezzo, the Florentine game of Calcio, and the Palio horse* racing of Siena, it will complete the programme of mediaeval Tuscan games, which are fought during the summer "festivals in the north; ot Italy and watched by many hundreds of visitors from England and elee^ere.^
