ROPES BURNT BY LIGHTNING i

CAPETOWN, May 3. During a lightning storm at midnight at Durban the crew of a large tanker heard a whiplash report, followed by the two four-inch ropes securing the stern of the tanker to the wharf hurtling through the air. A lighting flash had burnt through the ropes. The vessel was hauled back to her moorings only after a desperate struggle.
