SCHOOLS' REGATTA

ON PARRAMATTA RIVER SHORE WIN CHAMPIONSHIP (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.). SYDNEY, May 6. (Received May 5, at 8.80 p.m.) The annual great public schools' r*gatta, involving the Head of the River title, was held on the Parramatta River yesterday In fraß weather. The result* were as follows:

First Fours, one mile—St. Joseph** College 1, High School 2, Sydney Chnrcb of Englond Grammar School S, Scots College 4. Won by half a length. Time, smin 31&3ec. Second Fours —St. Joseph's 1, Sydney Church of England Grammar School and High Scnool (dead heat) 2, Scots College 4. Won by a length and a-half. Time, 6min 33sec. f Championship Eights. One mile and a-half—Sydney Church of England Grammar School 1, Sydney Grammar School 2, Scots College 3, King's College 4. Won by six feet. Time, Bmin 56Jsec. The Sydney Church of England Grammar School (known as Shore) crew crossed the line to win the annual boat race amid the customary wild scenes of enthusiasm. The race was rowed under conditions contrasting with those prevailing last year, when rough water troubled the majority of the contestants. Only the mildest breeze swept the water on Saturday. When the 'crews were sent off to an even start Grammar and Shore went to the front. After half a mil# the former were striking faster than Shore, but the latter was maintaining a beautifully even stroke. In th« final stages these two crews alternated in the lead, but just when Grammar appeared to have the upper hand Shore's last burst was unwound and although Grammar responded gamely Shore had a shade too much in reserve. Whereas last year's result was a triumph for the Fairbairn style, Saturday's result turned the. tables, Shore rowing in a manner very closely approximating the orthodox style. Scots were six lengths behind. There wt ro two collapses during the day's racing. Swire, the bow in the Shore four, collapsed 200 yards from the finish of the Second Fours when hi» crew was on level terms with St. Joseph's, and Byrne, No. 2 in St. Joseph's, was attacked by Cramp after his crew narrowly won the First Fours. Both were treated by ambulance men and then taken to their homes.
