SLUM CLEARANCE

PROGRESS IN BRITAIN (British Official Wireless.) J RUGBY, May 4. (Received May 5, at 5.5 p.m.) Rapid progress is now being made with the Government's five years' slum clearance scheme. The April figures of the schedpling of areas and the submission of orders for demolition and building are all in advance of the monthly average required to carry out the programme, which provides for the removal of 250,000 slum houses. So far 47,041 replacement houses have been completed. About 25,000 were constructed in March, and the necessary level of 30,000 is expected in the April returns.
