THE OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —It is said that the Hospital Board has been considering the advisability of permitting medical officers to charge fees for services rendered to patients in our Public Hospital. I understand, further, that the matter has been deferred untit after the election. * I would like to ask if this statement is correct, and, if so, who are the preseut members of the board favourable to the introduction of such a practice?—l am, etc., Elector.
[The statement is inaccurate. .The members of the honorary medical staff recently approached, the board on the question of hospital abuse, and in their letter expressed a disinclination to accept fees for honorary staff work. The whole question of private wards in hospitals has been disensssedat various times, but further consideration has been deferred on account of the proposals recently placed before the Hospital Boards' Association for the institution of a national medical service.—Ed.
