EMPIRE FREETRADE

CONSCIENTIOUS DOMINIONS (Fkom Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, March 23. This week's visit to Glasgow of Mr 11. T. B. Drew (publicity officer) to address the local members of the Overseas League inspired the editor of the London Daily Express to comment: — *' Don't be misled by abuse>of the Dominions. Most of it comes from Ministers who want to hide their own failure at Ottawa to give duties to British agriculture. "' Pay heed, instead, to facts which can be tested, such as Mr H. T. B. Drew, of the New Zealand Government publicity service, stated yesterday. He told Glasgow business men that each Dominion buys more British goods than any European country. Half the total export trade of this country goes to the dominions. What is more, the goods are shipped in British bottoms. " Mr Drew did not say, but this column says; that also the dominions discharge their debts to Britain while foreigners do not. The Dominions went on paying even when we ceased to pay the United States our war debt—and quite right too."
