WARLIKE PREPARATIONS

ITALY AND ABYSSINIA TROOPS MASSED ON FRONTIER LONDON, April 9. (Received April 10, at 8.30 p.m.) The correspondent of The Times in Rome says; “A steady trickle of men, material, and munitions continues from Italian ports to East Africa.” The Daily Mail’s Massowa correspondent says; “ There is at present 100,000 tons of shipping in the harbour. Every street is chocked with the sinews of war from casks of chianti to eases of cordite and thousands of yards of barbed wire. All are being hurried off to Asmara, the capital, 80 miles away, as soon as possible. It is reported that 120,000 Italians, much heavy artillery, 200 aeroplanes, and 40,000 native troops have been massed on the Abyssinian frontier and that larger forces are assembling in Italian Somaliland. Meanwhile Abyssinia is buying guns and material from Japan.”
