SMALL FARM CAMP

TROUBLE WITH SINGLE MEN ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY DISCHARGED. (Peb United Pbess Association) TE KUITI, April 10. For some time there has been trouble with the single men in the smali farm camp at Pururu, eight miles east of Te Kuiti. A climax was reached at mid-day to-day when the camp was closed down and 120 men discharged. The men demanded that firewood be cut and placed near their tents, and they'also compkined of the food. Four men were discharged for creating trouble, and at a stop-work meeting this morning a secret ballot was taken and it was decided to strike until the discharged men were reinstated. This was refused by the Public Works Department, and, acting upon instructions from the head office in Wellington, the camp was closed down. In the meantime the married men are still carrying on. Z Most of the strikers come from Wellington.
