WORKING SMOOTHLY
SPEED LIMIT IN BRITAIN RESPONSE FROM MOTORISTS fßritish Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 20. The speed limit of 30 miles per hour for motor vehicles on the streets and roads traversing built-up areas is officially considered to be working smoothly, and the Minister of Transport (Mr L. Hore-Belisha) has expressed satisfaction at the response from motorists to the appeal for co-operation in enforcing the limit. A further innovation in the campaign for reducing the traffic casualties in London was introduced yesterday when guard rails to prevent uncontrolled crossing of the street by pedestrians were introduced at a dangerous road junction in Camden Town. The object of the rails is to encourage pedestrians to use safety lanes when crossing roadways. SPEED VERY LITTLE LOWER (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 20. In reply to a question in the House of Commons Mr Hore-Belisha stated that, as a result of the enforcement of the speed limit, traffic generally was moving at a more uniform rate, and its average speed was little—if any—lower than before.
