FRENCH CONSCRIPTS

PERIOD OF SERVICE PARIS, March 12. Cabinet decided, pending the introduction of two-year military service, that conscripts to be recruited on April 1 should serve 18 months. Those recruited in October will serve two years. The Government has tabled a Bill authorising the building of a 35,000-ton battleship after January 1, 1937, in addition to that already included in the 1935 programme. It adds that the proposal enables France to keep within the Washington tonnage.
