A CONTEMPTIBLE ACT
TO THE EDITOR
Sir, —During the recent dry weather the residents of Maori Hill in the vicinity of Cannington road discovered that there was a spring of very good water in Braeview crescent. The resident on whose property the spring rose supplied a wooden pipe so that receptacles could be easily filled. As, however, the flow of water was rather slow, and at rush hours a considerable period of waiting in -a queue was necessary, another resident decided to improve matters still further. A clean barrel, holding approximately 65 gallons, was fitted with a tap and placed in position underneath the wooden pipe. The convenience of this arrangement to the large number of people who have patronised the spring need not be stressed. These folk will doubtless be pleased' to learn that, between Sunday evening and Monday morning last the complete outfit was removed by some person or persons unknown. ’ The despicable nature of a theft such as this excites a feeling of disgust, and it is to be hoped that the person responsible will have full enjoyment of his ill-gotten gains. Any information leading to the discovery of the miscreant would be welcomed by any resident in the vicinity. The present owner of the barrel might at least return it until the dry spell is definitely over.—l am, etc.. Resident No. 2.
