ROWING
ETCHT-OAR CONTEST UPPER AND LOWER HARBOUR MEET. An eight-oared race between the Upper and Lower Harbour crews was rowed at Port Chalmers last evening over a course of one mile and a-half, and resulted in a win for the Upper Harbour crew by half a leugth, the time being seven minutes; The provincial selectors followed the race, which was a particularly exciting one, and later chose the Otago representative eight-oar crew lo compete at the interprovincial eight-oar championship contest at Dunedin on Easter Saturday. The selectors would not, however, announce the names, which will be submitted to the association before publication. The Lower Harbour crew was first onl at the start of the race, but after 100 yards the Upper Harbour boat drew level and when half the distance had been covered the latter had a lead of a length. When the boats entered the wharves Lower Hai'bour was hard on the stem of the leader and reduced the lead ovr the last stretch, being only half a length behind at the gun.
