Relative of Lough Guy Pleasant Voyage, a relative of Dillon Gold, Lough Guy. and Royal de Oro, showed ability to trot in the kingsdown Handicap on Saturday. He petered out three furlongs from home, but should do well when more seasoned. He has gone into L. A. Maidens's stable. A Change of Gait Nelson Guv commenced his racing career as a pacer. 'His dam,*Effie Bingen, is by Nelson Bingen from the Wildwood mare Effie Wood, whose pedigree goes back to Berlin, a horse which laid the foundations of the trotti-ng breed in South Canterbury. Effie Bingen won a Dominion Trotting Cup at Addington some years ago. Timaru Track Record Rey Spec, who registered 4.24 for third place in the Timaru Cup on Saturday, was unanimously credited with establish ing a new record for the track by clipping a fraction off Author Jinks's time. Everybody overlooked that while Author Jinks holds the winning record for Washdyke, the track record is Sunny Morns 4mm 22 2-ssec put up two years ago when he finished second from 48yds behind to Great Chenault. who did 4min 26sec on the limit. The best two-mile time on the old course, which incorporated the straight of the big galloping track, was Waitaki Girl's 4min 27sec. Youngsters at Epsom A number of two and three-year-olds by Great Parrish are being educated at Epsom and several are showing a good deal of promise. A three-year-old from Coai Light, by Coal King, son of King Cole, from Arclight, is the most forward and will soon be ready to commence his racing career. Although trained at first as a trotter, the colt has developed into a stylish pacer and in his latest efforts has shown a 2.20 gait. He paces boldly and is as much at home free-legged as when geared up. Another three-year-old from Mountain Princess, dam of the good trotter Mountain Sun, favours the latter s gait. He is a colt of fine physique, with a splendid action, and is displaying a useful turn of speed, being capable of a 2.30 gait. ' Two pacing two-year-olds from Manna, dam of Manna's Son and a relative to Ivy Dean, respectively are making good progress. Another two-year-old from the trotting mare Lady Ena, has plenty of size, and, although he is double-gaited, is being educated as a trotter. He may take longer than the others to develop speed, but no fault can be found with his action.
