HUNGRY THIEF

Eric Butler, aged 32, a motor engineer, of no fixed home, was in London recently sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for having stolen two rugs from an unattended ear. The rugs belonged to Miss Cicely Croome, of Benhurst Court, Streatham Common. She had heard in court that Butler was workless when he stole the rugs, in need of food, and desperate. After Butler had left the court she handed half a crown to the gaoler saying that she wished Butler to he provided with a substantial meal.
