PREPARING FOR NEXT WINTER FRESH CONTACTS BEING MADE. i From Our Own Correspondent.) ’ LONDON, January 19. Mr G. D. Lishman (London representative of the Tourist Department) is on a provincial tour, renewing contacts and making new contacts with shipping and travel agencies, as part of his duty in ■inducing prospective travellers to include New Zealand in their itineraries. The High Commissioner is concentrating particularly on the tourist attractions of the Dominion. Mr Lishman has, revisited Glasgo.w and Edinburgh, following up the series inauguratedrecently., Five agencies each have been running window displays in those cities of activity. The ’dioramas and photographs shown have created considerable interest. ■ ' , Returning via Leeds, Sheffield, and Birmingham, Mr Lishman will be making new contacts and covering new groundin Leeds six tourist shipping agencies have become interested. Arrangements in each town arc being made for window displays, and they, will be followed immediately by advertising in the newspapers and by press publicity. , Mr H. T. B. Drew will join Mr Irishman in Sheffield., Manchester and Liverpool will be covered next, and then the South of England coast resorts will have attention. At places like Brighton, Eastbourne, Bournemouth, Torquay, Sidmouth a number of people spend part of the winter, and when the attractions of New Zealand are brought before them in an interesting manner. they may be able to consider going farther away a year hence when desirous of avoiding winter in London. . , ■ , Further, the short sea cruises arranged over the Christmas holiday period have been concluded, so that- New " ea *. a ?4 officials at the moment, will havethe .field to themselves in advocating the Dominion as a desirable resort forthe next winteravoiding cruise. Again, the tourist agencies, usually overwhelmed with inquiries for short period holidays, are, bow that the Christmas rush has eased oli, able to concentrate more particularly on the display of the photographs, dioramas, and posters with which they are supplied by the Government Tourist Department. The New Zealand Guide Book, which has proved such a boon to New Zealanders coining to London, has received very considerable attention from the High Commissioner since his return here. This year it will be issued at the end of (January, and large supplies will be put ,on the homeward bound steamers carrying New Zealanders for the season. The book is compiled at 415 Strand under .the High Commissioner’s instructions.
