The plea that newspapers were the most perishable articles in existence was put forward by Sir William Acland, director of Messrs VV. H. Smith and Son, when supporting an application for the licensing of two extra motor vehicles of the W. H. Smith Transport Company before the Northern Traffic Commissioners in Newcastle.
