MR JAOT CPIB United Association.! WELLINGTON, February S. Cable news has been received of the death in London on Friday last of Mr Jacob Isaacs, in his: ninety-fifth year. He was one of Dunedin's prominent pioneers, arriving there from Melbourne in the early seventies. Later he became a partner of the late Mr Bendix Hallenstein, of Dunedin, when the New Zealand Clothing Factory was established. He remained an active partner until 1890, when he retired, and four years later took up his residence in London.

(Received Feb. 3, at 6.30 p.m.) A well-known Sydney journalist and chief law reporter of the Sun, Mr E. George Marks, died yesterday as a result of a fall from a tram on the previous day. He was aged 50 years and was the author of many articles on Napoleon. MR J. S. FLETCHER (United Press (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright;) LONDON, February 1. The death is announced of Mr J, 8. Fletcher, the novelist. Mr J. S. Fletcher, author and journalist, was born in Halifax in 1863. He wrote extensively ,on rural life in the Leeds Mercury, Star, Morning Leader, Vanity Fair, , Daily Mail, and other papers, usually under the pseudonym "A Son of the Soil." He was special correspondent of the Leeds Mercury on several occasions, and assistant leader writer from 1893 to 1898. He wrote some books, including several mystery novels.

MRS ANNIE AINGE The death occurred on Friday of Mrs Annie Ainge, of St Clair. The deceased was the widow of Mr J. A. Ainge, who was for many years licensee of the Seacliff Hotel and later of the Grand Hotel, Dunedin. After her husband's death, Mrs Ainge conducted the Grand Hotel for a period of four years. She then retired into private life, subsequently taking over the European Hotel i£ George street, which she managed unti ? laid aside by illness.
