(Received, Jan. 30, at 0.45 a.m.) The Daily Herald’s special correspondent states: “.Japan is making a bid for an air base in Siam, within striking distance of Singapore, ostensibly for civilian air transport. : She hopes to establish a service between Tokio and Bangkok at the beginning of the autumn and will use Douglas machines. It Is intended that the terminus in Siam shall be a base for Japanese, war operations if the heed arises, and efforts are being made to win Siamese friendship.”
