BUILDING ACTIVITY
SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE LAST YEAR While the number of permits issued for buildings within the city during 1034 did not show a particularly large increase over the preceding year, the value of the buildings concerned was greater by over £6O,(XX). A feature of the figures for last year was that the winter months maintained a fairly high level of building activity, which was in distinct contrast with what occurred during the autumn and winter of 1933, when the value of building work put in hand fell by over 50 per cent. The figures for the two years are as follows:—•
The figures for the present month to date show that 35 permits have been Issued, of which the value is £17,085.
