RIFLE SHOOTING

DUNEDIN DEFENCE CLUB. The Dunedin Defence Rifle Club shot a competition counting for the dlub's championship and Murray Trophy on Saturday afternoon. There was an attendance of 17, and 10 shots (two optional sighters) each were fired at 300 yards and 600 yards. Weather conditions were fine, but a bright, light and a variable wind made shooting conditions difficult. The best score at 300 yards was 48 by Rifleman R. G. Graham. At 600 yards Rifleman R. G. Graham and A. W. Cooper were top with 47 each. Rifleman R. G. Graham headed the day's aggregate with the fine score of 95. Following are the highest' scores:—

CLINTON DEFENCE CLUB. On Saturday afternoon seven members of the Clinton Defence Rifle Club competed for J. Dodd's Trophy over the 300 yards, 500 yards, and 600 yards ranges. The weather conditions were tricky throughout the shoot, a light fishtail wind being very troublesome at the 300 yards range. At the commencement of the 500 yards range competition conditions had improved, but later the wind ' again got very troublesome, and continued so for the remainder cf the match. At the 300 yards range Rifleman W. Brown and Deputy-president T. Forrest were top scorers with 30 points. "At the 500 yards range President W. Semple headed the score with 35, followed by Rifleman C. North with 33. At the 600 yards range Deputy-president T. Forrest was highest, with 30. Rifleman W. Brown was the winner of the trophy with 93£ points, being followed closely by Rifleman J.' Black with 93 points. The following are the scores:—

KAITANGATA DEFENCE CLUB. The Kaitangata Defence Rifle Club fired the second stage of the third competition on Saturday, 16 members shooting. The afternoon was fine,- but an easterly breeze, fish tailing, and a threatening thunderstorm kept the majority of the scores down. At 500 yards R. Kitto, with a good 33, R. Thomson, J. Frazer, and R. M'Crostie with 32 each, ail shot well; at 600 vards W. Oliver with 32, J. Frazer 31, R. M'Crostie, R. Thomson, and E. JSspie each 30 shot well. Leading cup scores now are:— R. Thomson 384, J. Frazer 381, R. Kitto 380, M. Brown 379, J. Ramsay 379, R. M'Crostie 378, E. Espie 375, T. Frazer and J. Dick 374. Championship scores are:—R. M'Crostie 372, J. Frazer 366, R. Thomson 365, E. Espie 362, M. Brown 356, R. Kitto 354. Next ■ Saturday the final shoot of the competition, seven shots at 300 and 500 yards, will be fired. Following are the leading scores:—
