CANADA AND AMERICA SWEPT A NUMBER OF FATALITIES (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) VANCOUVER, December 27. (Received Dec. 28, at 11.55 p.m.) .An Arctic blast which swept Canada and the United States during the weekend before Christmas struck with renewed fury to-day, with a steadily mounting list of fatalities. The blizzard crippled transport around Montreal, where the thermometer touched lOdeg. below zero, while eastern Canada and the Atlantic States generally were buried in snowdrifts. Ten people were killed in Minnesota traffic accidents, while Montana and Michigan counted ten dead, including two who were frozen to death in a stalled motor car. Highway traffic is at a standstill in rural Ontario.
