"HERR VON A" MYSTERY ROEHM REVOLT SUSPECT BERLIN, November 6. Herr Werner von Alvensleben, the German Conservative politician who was arrested on June 30 for his alleged connection with the Roehm revolt, was, it was learned to-night, released from prison about ten days ago. Since the beginning of July he' had been in the Lichtenberg concentration camp near Torgau, which is reserved for political prisoners. Herr von Alvensleben was believed in many quarters to be the mysterious " Herr von A" to whom Herr Hitler referred in his Reichstag speech of July 13 as the intermediary between General von Schleicher, the former Chancellor, and Captain Roehm, the Storm Troop leader, both of whom were shot. It would appear from his release that this theory has been dropped in official circles. It remains, however, difficult to account for his arrest, for Herr von Alvensleben was a prominent friend of Herr Hitler and one of those who played a prominent part in bringing him to power. Meanwhile no official statement has yet been issued with regard to Miss Isabel Lilian Steele, the American woman, who has been imprisoned in Berlin for nearly three months. Although the charge against her has not yet been formulated, it is believed that it has nothing to do with her rumoured connection with Captain Georg von Sosnowsky, the Polish officer who was sentenced to death, with three women accomplices, for selling military secrets to a foreign Power.
It is understood that Miss Steele's acquaintance with this officer was of the slightest, and that she had merely, as long ago as last February, attended one of his parties, which were then well known in a certain section of Berlin society. Miss Steele had, however, many friends in prominent positions in the Nazi party.
