IMPERIAL EX-SERVICEMEN

CONCERT AT WAITATI. The Waitati and district residents were entertained on Saturday at the Public Hall by members of the Imperial Exservicemen’s concert party. A lively programme rendered by the Minstrels occupied an hour and a-quarter before a good and appreciative audience. “Sambo” (Mr Baxter, sen.), owing to the last minute absence of a corner man. very ably filled the breach, and he had his audience highly amused by his perpetual humorous cross talk, whilst Mr Baxter, jun., as camp cook, applied a series of witty patter in an amusing style. Messrs Watt and Brown were in good form and Messrs Duncan and Murray, two promising young tenors, sang several items, both old and modern, which received applause. A well-arranged supper was then provided, followed by dancing. Throughout the entertainment there was not a dull moment, and it was thoroughly enjoyed by young and old. Mr Parata, speaking on behalf of local residents, thanked the troupe for the entertainment and added a special request for a return. Mr Kearsley ably presided at the piano, aided by an “ orchestra ” composed of kazoos, tamborines, bones, and spoon players, which gave a decided novel atmosphere to the dancing.
