UNDULANT FEVER

ELDERLY MAN’S DEATH (IT-a United Pkess Association) CHRISTCHURCH. November 15. The death of an elderly man, caused by undnluiit fever, was reported by the inspector of the Waiinari County Council at the meeting last night. The infection wms caught by drinking milk from a cow infected with the germs after having suffered from contagious abortion. The inspector said it was the only case he had known in Waimari, although he hud known of four such cases in the North Island. It was not until recently specified as undulant fever. In all cases the persons affected were great milk drinkers, or were continually handling cattle or milk. The man who had died had drunk large quantities from the particular cow. A member said he had known of the diseash for some time. It had been commonly treated as influenza. The inspector said the disease was not the result of dii'ly dairies, but of a germ in a few cows. The chairman: All milk should bo boiled before drinking. A member; And then it is no good. The report was received.
