WAITAKI POWER BOARD AND STREET LIGHTING

TO THE EDITOR Slit, —Your correspondent Justice” is a very amusing person. He is the real postmaster at ‘‘evading questions” and ■‘clouding the issue.” What on earth does it matter about the date of the engineer's report? Why should there be any secrets about those things at all? Is the secretive business in fho best interests of the ratepayers of Oamaru? What difference does it make if Ex-employee ” is “ disgruntled ” or not if his statements are true? . The point at issue is whether the policy of the present board will or will not result in that body being forced to levy a rate as forecasted by “Ex-employee.” From the report of the last meeting of the Oamaru Borough Council it would appear that a rate is really being already levied, but the rate has been collected by the council. If the price charged for street lighting is excessive, a s it certainly appears to be, then the rate is inflicted on the ratepayers whether it be collected by the board or the council. It appears that the price charged for street 'lighting is approximately four times us much as the price charged lo flouvmillcrs and other uses ot motor power. The cost to the Waitaki Power

! Board is the exact same for " each unit, no matter for what, purpose the power is used. Can “Justice” justify this? He would be more helpful to the side he supports if he would tackle these things and refrain from semi-abuse. It is just the old tactics, “no case, abuse the other fellow.” He dubs, “Ex-employee” “a rather slippery person.” I consider, Sir, that “ Justice ” is the truly “ slippery ” person, and that if his evasive epistles were so signed the inhabitants of pur town would be better enabled to assess their right import on the questions under notice.— l am, etc.. Truth.
