CHARITY CONCERT
On October 4 a charity concert will be presented in the Town Hall. The artists include Madame Elsa Stralia. the Australian prima donna and Covent Garden opera star soprano, in selected numbers; Senia Chiostakoff, the famous Russian tenor, in choral and solo items; Paul Vinogradoff, the Russian pianist, assisted by the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Choir, conducted by Mr John Leech, and the 4YA Concert Orchestra, conducted by Mous. B. L. H. de Rose. This concert has been arranged by the New Zealand Broadcasting Board, in aid of his Worship the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund for the children. Madame Stralia has had wonderful receptions since she arrived in New Zealand. Senia Chiostakoff, the famous Russian tenor, has become quite a favourite in Dunedin, and at his recent performance with the Returned Soldiers’ Association Choir hundreds were turned away. Paul Vinogradoff, the Russian pianist, is w'ell known, and his solos with orchestral accompaniment have always been enjoyed. In addition to these three great artists, the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Choir will render items, and also will assist with the special numbers that will be sung by Senia Chiostakoff. The 4YA Concert Orchestra (augmented), conducted by Mons. de Rose, will perform, and in addition their members will assist Madame Elsa Stralia, Senia Chiostakoff, and Paul Vinogradoff. With three such famous artists, this concert should be outstanding. Box- plan arrangements are advertised. The New Zealand Broadcasting Board is to be congratulated on bringing such artists to New Zealand, more especially seeing that the whole of the proceeds are to be given to Ins Worship the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund.
