YESTERDAY’S PROCEEDINGS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ! i (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 18. The House met at 2.30 p.m. TRADE WITH AUSTRALIA. Mr T. D. Burnett (Terauka) asked the Minister of Agriculture (Mr C. E. Macmillan) whether the Government would now again open negotiations with the Commonwealth Government of Australia for the right df entry of New Zealand potatoes into Australia. Mr Macmillan replied that it was intended to resume negotiations with the .Commonwealth Government regarding that and other matters, and at as early a date as could be arranged. WOMEN TEACHERS. Mr W. A. Bodkin (Central Otago), on behalf of the Education Committee, presented a report on the petition of the New Zealand Women Teachers’ Association regarding 2a women teachers and the reduction in salary by £3O. The report stated that, in view of the assurance o£the Education Department that 2a teachers now were receiving the additional salary reduced by cuts and would receive it unless a school fell a grade and they declined to transfer to another school, the committee bad no recommendation to make. I The report was tabled. AN INCORRECT REPORT. During the discussion on another petition, the Prime Minister (Mr G. W. Forbes) said that the report that he, Mr Masters and Mr Coates were going to Canberra to discuss the citrus fruits position was incorrect. MOTION OF SYMPATHY. Mr Forbes referred to the death of Mr R. A. Loughnan, and a motion placing on record appreciation of his services to the country and expressing sympathy with the relatives was carried. WAIRAU RIVER BOARD. The Wairau River Board Empowering Bill was put through its remaining stages and passed. " ROTORUA BOROUGH BILL.. As the Local Bills Committee had recommended that the Rotorua Borough Empowering Bill be not allowed to proceed, Mr C. H. Clinkard (Rotorua) asked that it be discharged from the order.jjaper, and this was agreed to. THE CUSTOMS BILL. The committee stage of the Customs Acts Amendment Bill was then resumed.
