MR R. B. TENNENT

NEW DIRECTOR OF FIELDS DIVISION PRESENTATION BY LOCAL OFFICERS. % Although his appointment to an executive position in the Department of Agriculture as director of the fields division in succession to Mr J. W. Deem dates back some months, Mr R. B, Tennent has not- yet been released from his duties as fields superintendent for Otago and Southland. During the past few months, therefore, he has been dividing his time between headquarters in Wellington and the Dunedin office of the department. His active association with the work of the division in Otago is now drawing to a close, however, and in recognition of this a farewell function was held in the local branch of the department yesterday afternoon.

AH branches of the service were represented, and glowing tributes to Mr Tennent’s outstanding service, his keenness for the work of experiment and research on which he has been engaged for the past 14 years, and his willingness to cooperate with the officers of other sections, were paid by spokesmen representative of the fields, live stock, horticultural, and clerical divisions. . , . . As a mark of the esteem in which he \vas held, Mr Tennent was presented with a fireside chair and a handsome set of carvers. In acknowledging the expressions of, goodwill and the gifts of which he was the recipient, Mr Tennent referred with pleasure to his long association with the department in Otago, and emphasised the fact that throughout hia service his relations with other divisions had always been characterised by the greatest cordiality. He had enjoyed working with them and was leaving the southern provinces with a good deal of regret. , After the presentation afternoon tea was dispensed and a very pleasant function was brought to a close with musical honours.
